Try It Tuesday - DIY Custom Tile Coasters

You too can make beautiful custom tile coasters from just a few simple supplies. You will need napkins with a decorative print you like, tiles, spray adhesive, spray lacquer, a piece of cardboard, and self-adhesive tabs. I have made these several times for various friends and family and they always seem to be a well received gift and I decided to make them for another friend this past Christmas.

The cardboard is very important because you want it to lay underneath your project so that you do not get spray from the adhesive or lacquer anywhere you do not want it.

The first thing you will need to do it prepare your napkin. Usually these decorative napkins have several layers. Remove all layers & discard, except the top layer with the image. Cut (or rip in the case of my project) the napkin to the desired size.

Next, spray adhesive over the entire tile. The press the napkin in to place. Allow to dry completely before apply lacquer. This may take 1-2 hours.

Spray 3 coats of lacquer on to the top, thus sealing it in. Allow each coat to dry before applying a new layer. Allow to dry for 24-48 hours before stacking.

Apply self-adhesive tabs to the bottom. This will prevent your coasters from scratching your furniture.
